What a sad story, Sam, and tragic loss of two lives. You raise some interesting points about men and mental health. It has also been well-documented that the suicide of a close friend of family member can increase the likelihood of suicide in survivors who were already depressed and in pain. I've talked to individuals who've gone down that path and survived and what I've heard is that the suicide of their loved one seemed, at the time, to give them some kind of psychological permission to do the same. I should also point out that these survivors were invariably glad they survived. It's a cliche but suicide really is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
