What a frustrating case. Some of those questions seem answerable, such as whether Eric was sleeping with the sheriff's wife or the other Eric was stealing from the business. It also seems like it would be possible for state police to get involved if there was a conflict of interest (i.e., the sheriff). But., given that Unsolved Mysteries featured it and it's still unsolved, I'm sure it's a lot more complicated than that.
