What a fascinating article. I had no idea that 9000 years was the longest U.S. sentence to date. As far as our inebriated Joe Munch, while I applaud the judge's reasoning (teach a lesson but show some leniency), it's hard to see how a minute behind bars would teach anyone anything (although it could have been an entertaining story the next time Munch got drunk). Sadly, it sounds like his sargeant decided to make his lesson a fatal one.
