I, too, was mesmerized by Truman Capote;s book. In some ways, it was the impetus that got my true crime/forensic psychology career started. I have no doubt that there are factual errors and omissions in this book that Capote was willing to massage in service of a more compelling and narrative account. In reality, this seems to be an early version of a story "inspired by true events." Somehow, I don't think Capote lost much sleep sweating over some of the details.
