I confess, after seeing one too many staged suicides, to viewing this case with a jaded eye. But her first husband had committed suicide nine years before this happened and, if I'm getting the timelline correct, she had known her seventeen-year-old stepson for less than a year before he died by suicide. I don't know how recently her mother died or what Emily's mental health history was throughout her lifetime. But the allegations of domestic violence by friends (before Emily died) is enough for me to need some convincing that the jury got it right.
